From accompaniment to measurable enterprise change.

GROW’s theory of change is straightforward: women are more likely to strengthen enterprises when support is sustained, practical, digitally inclusive, climate-smart, and linked to fairer market opportunities. Business thinking, digital records, climate-smart practice, and fair market access reinforce one another — not in sequence, but simultaneously.

Sustained accompaniment, not one-off training

Women receive structured six-month field support at the level of their actual farm — not a workshop, not a seminar. Presence builds trust and changes behaviour.

Enterprise thinking, digital records, green practice, and market access are integrated, not separate modules. Each pillar strengthens the others.

How We Measure Change

A Multi-Method Approach to Credible Income Evidence

WEDGE Africa avoids relying on recall alone. Our evidence model combines participant-owned records, programme-close analysis, follow-up methods, and comparison-group reference points, making income and practice change claims that can withstand scrutiny.

Method 01

Farm Record Book data

Cost and revenue captured during the programme, not reconstructed from memory. Real-time records produce evidence grounded in what actually happened on each farm.

Method 02

Farm Business Plan analysis

Every programme completer produces a personalised Farm Business Plan covering margins, risks, and market plans. It belongs to the participant and is the primary output of each GROW cohort.

Method 03

12-month follow-up survey

Income data collected at 12 months post-programme, supported by food security and asset indicators that provide an independent check on any income change reported.

Method 04

Comparison-group baseline

Baseline data from 20 non-participant women in similar communities. This reference point helps separate programme effect from seasonal or market-wide change.

WEDGE Africa’s quality approach connects data review with delivery standards. Cohort limits, facilitator preparation, monthly monitoring, and clear escalation thresholds ensure the programme delivers what it promises.
